The next step towards full service provider
The Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group (RSRG) continues to grow: in January 2015 the Austrian/Swiss railway technology company will acquire certain parts of the German and Austrian business of the British infrastructure company, Balfour Beatty, subject to approval by the cartel authorities. These parts are the track system business of Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH Germany as well as JumboTec GmbH (Germany) and Balfour Beatty GmbH Austria. The Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, which was formed at the end of 2012 following the merger of Rhomberg Bahntechnik and the Sersa Group, will thereby acquire about 600 additional employees working from various locations in Germany and Austria, with a turnover of about EUR 85 million. All existing members of staff of the various units will be retained.
With the three new companies, the RSRG is expanding its portfolio of services in the fields of “leasing and maintenance of track construction machines” and catenary and is consolidating its presence in the German and Austrian market. “The new colleagues will add valuable competence and contacts and will thereby support the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group in its performance as a full service provider of railway technology in the core markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland”, explains Konrad Schnyder, President of the Group’s Owner Board.
“We leave the company in good hands”
The track construction section of BB Gleisbau GmbH Germany will come under the umbrella of SESO Holding Germany and, in the next step, will be renamed RS Gleisbau. JumboTec will be retained as a brand and will be affiliated with SESO Holding Germany. Balfour Beatty GmbH Austria will be renamed Rhomberg Fahrleitungsbau GmbH and in its organisation will be affiliated with the RSRG subsidiary, Bahnbau Wels GmbH (BBW). “This will enable us to offer our customers an even better service portfolio and we will be able to utilise valuable synergies”, explains the RSRG CEO Hubert Rhomberg about the decisions.
“We are very happy that, in the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, we have found a company that will continue to manage and develop our three company units in a responsible way”, comments Dr Michael Bernhardt, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail GmbH. “During the negotiations, our conviction grew that the company units would be in good hands at the RSRG, something that has helped us a great deal with our decision”. Both sides have agreed not to disclose the acquisition price.
